Review of the Movie "Sound of Freedom" and the true Reality of Child Sex Trafficking
After all of my years covering child sex trafficking, I have to admit, I am ecstatic to see a major well produced film make it into the theaters all over the country covering this topic.
Sure, we have documentaries, articles and interviews all over the internet about this topic, but they are incredibly censored (child trafficking is one of the most censored topics on the internet and in media in general - I know first hand) and two, they often lack the emotion and impact that a big screen motion picture can deliver.
So in this way, I give the movie two huge thumbs up. It delivered in bringing the audience a personal story of a brother and sister caught in a sex trafficking nightmare that people can connect to and learn from. While every victim’s story is different, the painful reality that these two siblings experience represents what millions of children experience daily.
It was a great film. Entertaining and powerful. It will keep your interest the entire time. I don’t care if the movie had or does not have all the technical details worked out. What I care about is that it actually made it to the theaters and it delivered. And it delivered big.
From what I understand, it was one heck of an effort to just get the film made and into theaters. The obstacles they managed to get around were immense. And that is a huge win for humanity.
So before I get into what the movie missed (or only briefly touched on) about the realities of child trafficking, I want to encourage all of you to go see the film. You can even buy tickets for others that cannot afford the film or you can get a ticket yourself if you cannot afford it.

Ok, for the reality.
The film, like all films, is loosely based off a true story. Much of the film is written and brought to you for the purpose of giving the audience something they can relate to. True reality would be confusing to fit into a 2 hour movie and thus, few good movies give you the true reality as it actually happened.
a) For example, the main character, Tim Ballard, was a composite of at least 20 other real life people (according to my sources). For simplicity, the writers did this so the audience could more easily understand the story.
The good part is that it allows people to relate and feel more connected to the main character and the story. The bad part is, people may wrongly believe we need a single hero to combat trafficking. Not only is that not true, it sends the message to the public that the problem is not ours collectively to solve; i.e. all we need is a few well paid heroes to take care of the problem. This is a false message and a dangerous one to send. In reality, we need ALL of us to solve this problem.
b) The nightclub/bar lightly described in the movie showing “Teddy Bear” (the little boy) in a Tijuana sex bar depicts real bars that exist. Those bars are called “Juice Bars” where children are easily available to customers. These bars exist in every major city in the United States. Law enforcement know these bars exist and they allow them to operate. I will cover this topic more in a later article. But it’s important that we do not think it’s just a Mexico Tijuana thing or a South American issue, but a problem that exists everywhere.
c) The main rescue scene depicting a rich man’s perverted island club did happen, but not quite as depicted. It was much more intense and more children were involved (as they stated in the closing statements).
The billionaire hedge fund manager in the film who was played by the director of the movie, Alejandro Monteverde, was really Paul Hutchinson; a real life entrepreneur and hedge fund manager who has funded and led over 70 child rescue missions himself.
The film was made 5 years ago and at that time, Hutchinson was still undercover. The film had to be sensitive to his ongoing role. Therefore the scene was altered (or skimmed over) to protect his involvement. The real life story is so much more impactful told first hand from his perspective. I had the chance to interview him twice about his role and work in this regard. You can hear those interviews here:
Part 1: We discuss in depth the island rescue. The most kids ever rescued in a single operation: https://sarahwestall.com/billionaire-secret-agent-navy-seal-trained-rescuing-children-from-pedophile-rings-paul-hutchinson/
Part 2: Paul dives deeper into his work and aspirations: https://sarahwestall.com/10-million-kids-sold-for-sex-blackmail-sound-of-freedom-movie-w-paul-hutchinson/
We also discussed in the interview why it is important that everyone (or a lot of people) are involved to help end this nightmare. As described above, we cannot depend on lone heroes to solve this problem.
The interviews I did with Paul Hutchinson are two of the most powerful ones I have done on this topic. I can say they are the most hopeful and inspiring to date.
However, there are also a collection of others that I have done that are just as impactful, but more heart wrenching, which I will share with you in future articles.
I have endured quite a bit from my time covering this topic since 2016 when I first interviewed Scott the Survivor. The interview with Scott was the first time he publicly shared his experience with anyone. He poured his soul out in the interview. It was heart wrenching to say the least.
That two part interview changed my life. He is my hero.
Both of those videos were deleted from Youtube where they were first published, but Odysee (bless their heart), saved them for me without my knowledge. I will forever be greatly to the team at Odysee for their courage and commitment to the truth. You can see those videos here: Part 1, Part 2
Warning, that interview is extremely graphic. You may have to pause and watch in segments.
There is so much more to my journey in discovering this nightmare and sharing it with the public. From being stalked by actual human traffickers, to being caught up in court cases, to being coined a Qanon conspiracy theorist, and so much more.
Many people have asked me to do a series on my work in this area. So I will do more articles with this one being my first. Future articles will discuss some of the following:
My 6 part series with Detective Rothstein (the American hero who has taken down more child pedophiles than anyone). One of his main informant was legendary Roy Cohen, who was also Trump’s mentor.
My coverage of Ukraine and laundering of babies through their embassy and the realization of what is happening in Ukraine
My coverage of Timothy Holmseth’s work which led to me being harassed by actual human traffickers (I no longer answer my phone due to this) and how it got me entangled in legal matters in Florida and MN.
Coverage of Jeffrey Epstein and the video files that John Mark Dougan had as protection for the local sheriffs. The FBI has those blackmail videos and they contain some of the most prominent people in the western world in politics and business.
My involvement (with Detective Rothstein) back in 2016 with the Q anon book that ranked #1 in 16 categories on Amazon. It is where I termed the phrase “Blackmail is the currency of the Powerful”. I was not a Q anon reporter. I simply wanted to get the reality of child/human trafficking out to the people. With millions of people reading that book, it clearly served that purpose. I do not regret the decision to be involved even though it led to media smears and so much more. The issue is more important than me and my reputation. I wish more people operated in this fashion and we would not have the trafficking epidemic we have today.
and so much more…
So I will dive much more into this in future articles. I hope you learned something from my work on this. It’s been a work of passion. Something I have been driven to do beyond myself. It is not work you do because its fun. Its work you do because you feel an obligation. Something that is driving you from above. I hope many of you have this same drive. As you learn the truth, you should come to realize, as I have, that a modern civilized society cannot exist with this as its foundation.
